SWIMMING/WATER programs

At the YMCA of Lenawee County in Adrian, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for every child, teen and adult. Our swimming pool is available for water exercise, swim lessons and more. In swim lessons, we use a variety of methods to help children and adults build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. It's not too late to learn how to swim! If you're comfortable in the water, consider participating in some of our Water Exercise classes. Water Exercise provides motivation, aerobic choreography, muscle conditioning, improved cardiovascular endurance and muscle tone by using the buoyancy and resistance of the water.  Water Exercise is ideal for all fitness levels, non-swimmers included.

 

 

UPCOMING SWIM LESSON Sessions

 

Session-            

                          Summer I- June 13- July 15  (July 4 make-up will be held July 18)

                          Summer II- July 25- August 26

 

* Sessions run for 7-weeks in the winter, spring, and fall, and 5-weeks in the summer. Each class meets once a week and classes run 30 to 45 minutes in length depending on the level of the class. Progress reports will be given out the second to last day of class.

DISCOVER AND EXPLORE- Parent/Child Swim Lessons

AGES: 6 months - 3 years old

This program offers activities based on the developmental abilities of the child. Parent will learn how to positively and creatively encourage water skills through instruction and play as their child becomes more comfortable in the water.

6 months- 18 months

Saturdays 9:30-10:00am

19 months- 36 months

Thursdays 5:45-6:15pm or Saturdays 10:00-10:30am

 

PRESCHOOL SWIM BASICS

AGES: 3 TO 5 years old

Preschool swim lessons focus on basic swim skills and pool safety. Children move through progressive levels as they increase swimming distance, endurance and ability with each level.

Level 2

WAVERUNNERS SWIM TEAM

 

Registration is currently underway for the 2017 summer swim season which will begin in June. The Waverunners will compete in 5 meets this summer plus the league championships.

The YMCA of Lenawee County offers fully customizable Swim Lessons, because we understand that sometimes, one size does NOT fit all. So whether you are a first time swimmer or looking to improve technique and endurance, we can customize "YOUR LESSONS, YOUR WAY!"

One of our expert swim instructors will respond within 48 hours and work with you to schedule your lessons at a time that is convenient for you.

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION COURSE

If you’re 15 or older and interested in becoming a certified American Red Cross Lifeguard, then this is the class for you! CPR/AED and First Aid will be included in this class. Class is approximately 25 hours in length. FEES: $225 Y member, $275 non-member.

Water Fitness Programs 

Morning Classes:

Open Water Exercise Monday/Wednesday 10:30-11:30am
Open Water Exercise Tuesday/Thursday 9:30-10:30am
This time is for members to come in and make-up their own workout while socializing with others.

Aquacise- Tuesdays/Thursdays 10:30-11:30am
This shallow water workout provides cardiovascular and muscle toning benefits. The balanced workout includes warm-up, aerobics, cool down, strength and toning and flexibility. The intensity can be modified for all levels of fitness.

Arthritic Aquacise- Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 11:30am-12:30pm 
These water exercises include low impact movements for people with limited joint motion, strength or cardio-respiratory function. This class focuses on improving flexibility, muscle endurance, range of motion and balance. For all fitness levels.

Deep Water Aerobics-  Tuesday, Thursday 8:30am-9:30am. Friday 9:30-10:30am. 

This deep and shallow water workout provides a higher intensity cardiovascular and muscle toning workout. Instructor will help motivate and encourage you and you will a marked see improvement in your fitness level. 

 

Night Classes:

Cardio Aquacise Monday/Wednesday 6:00-7:00pm

A complete water fitness class, Cardio Mix uses a variety of exercises and equipment. Activities may include calisthenics, walking, kicking and the use of specialized equipment. Intensity and impact can be varied on an individual basis. Each class consists of warm-up, aerobic, cool-down, muscle toning and flexibility segments. This class takes place in shallow water. Modifications For all fitness levels.

Deep Water Interval Monday/Wednesday 6:00-7:00pm
In this deep-water workout, participants use equipment to keep afloat while suspended in the deep end of the pool. The balanced workout includes warm-up, aerobics, cool down, strength and toning and flexibility. Participants must be comfortable in deep water. Modifications For all fitness levels.
