About Latchkey

The YMCA of Lenawee County is working together with the surrounding community to keep kids in a safe environment, extend their education, and foster their social behavior. The YMCA of Lenawee County is dedicated in providing opportunities for children to live a healthy lifestyle. The program includes breakfast and snack, and one day a week is devoted to encouraging children to make healthy eating choices through hands on nutrition activities. Before and after school the children spend at least 20 minutes in the gym or outside. Once a week the Lead Teacher plans an activity based on physical education and gross motor development. Another day of the week the children get active with an hour or more of swim time after school.

The Latchkey Program also focuses on social responsibility by designing structured recreational activities based on arts and crafts, theatre and music, community service, and science projects that boost children’s confidence through play and interaction. The children at the YMCA grow and learn together becoming a family of friends.

The staff will provide the families with a weekly overview and newsletter to communicate the week’s activities and reminders. The YMCA of Lenawee County’s Lead Teachers have either graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education, or our currently enrolled in an education program. Every day after school the staff devotes time to assist children who need help with their homework. The staff is trained and implements a discipline approach; which includes the YMCA’s core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. We promise our families exceptional care for their children!

The YMCA Latchkey Program is your flexible solution. We are open from 6am-6pm on all half days, full days, weather delays, and cancellations. We are only closed on Major Holidays. We also have many pricing options to meet your work schedule. If you do not see a category that fits your unique situation call and speak to the Childcare Director. For financial assistance we accept FIA, and also have a scholarship program for approved families. See below for pricing information.

Registration

Please stop by the YMCA in Adrian to register for the Preschool or Latchkey programs. There is a $15 registration fee per family to hold your spot. If you enroll full time, each additional child will receive 10% off their weekly tuition. If you get a friend to register as well, you will receive one week free tuition.
